Mini splits are smooth operators

Maybe you’re used to a heating or cooling system that lets you know when it turns on and when it stops.

You get no such noisy notices from a mini-split. Instead, it quietly emits a steady stream of cooled or heated air to keep the room at a level temperature all the time. That’s better than a traditional system, which emits a whoosh of hot or cold air for a while and then shuts down until the temperature changes and it repeats the cycle again and again.

A mini-split uses inverter technology that lets it adjust its activity. Once it reaches the desired temperature on the thermostat, it drops down to a reduced but consistent pace that keeps the cooling or heating right where you want it.

Not only do you get an even temperature, you also get lower electricity costs and less stress on the system, meaning it will last longer before it needs repairs.

Beware

Mini-split systems run for long periods, but not usually at full tilt all the time. If your system keeps running non-stop at high speed for an unusually long time, you may have a problem.

The most likely reasons are a dirty filter or a refrigerant problem. Another concern: Is it the right size for the room it serves, or is the room too big for that size mini-split?
