Gas furnace or heat pump?
The relatively new heat pump, now capable of warming homes even in freezing temperatures, is challenging the gas furnace, once a top choice for New York property-owners.
Prices of electricity and natural gas fluctuate, but electricity generally costs less than gas.
Here are some yardsticks for measuring each system’s pros and cons:
Gas furnace
A gas-fired furnace has fewer components and is less likely than a heat pump to break down. It also lasts longer, in part because it is used only during part of the year.
Heat pump
A heat pump generally is more fuel-efficient than a gas furnace. It also provides air conditioning in summer as well as heat in winter.
A heat pump operates more quietly than a furnace and does not carry the fire risks associated with a gas furnace.
Lighthouse HVAC installs and services both gas furnaces and heat pumps. We will show you the pros and cons for your specific case.
