3 ways to shush that AC noise

Fence it in

A fence will absorb much of the noise that comes from an outdoor unit, the noisemaker of your AC system.

However, make sure the fence is at least three feet from the unit so airflow is not impeded.

Another benefit: The fence will obscure the unit from sight.

Go natural

Plants and vegetation can absorb a lot of the noise before it gets far from the outside unit. However, as with the fence, make sure the vegetation is three feet away from the AC unit.

Blanket the sound

A sound blanket uses acoustic glass insulation and a rubber barrier to muffle a large share of the noise, which comes from the compressor in the outside unit.
